The capacity utilization rate of graphite electrodes saw a slight increase in the first quarter, but the overall improvement was limited and did not significantly change due to the increase in downstream electric arc furnace operations. The average capacity utilization rate of the electrode market in the first quarter was 29.39%, a 3.6 percentage point increase compared to the fourth quarter. This is mainly because electrode manufacturers prioritized the digestion of previous inventory, and secondly, poor production profits hindered the enthusiasm of manufacturers to increase production.
The production profit of graphite electrodes saw a slight rebound in the first quarter, but overall it remained at the breakeven point. The gross profit of ultra-high power graphite electrode production in the first quarter was 36.8 yuan/ton, a slight increase compared to the -789 yuan/ton in the fourth quarter.
